Overview

The 2025 edition of the Club Championship presents two competitions offering exciting and competitive racing for us all.

Club Championship

Your race time will be adjusted based on your Handicap set by Run Britain Rankings.

WAVA Grand Prix

Your race time will be adjusted based on your Age and the Age Standard Time set by World Master Athletics.

The season runs from April 2025 to November 2025 in time for West Yorkshire Winter League.

Eligibility

To be eligible for both competitions you just need a current Pumas Membership, either first or second claim and be registered with Run Britain at runbritainrankings.com

You do NOT need to be registered with England Athletics.

You can also join the Championship at any point after the season starts and still be eligible for awards.

Your age group is determined by your age at the season start date which is the 1st April 2025

Second claim entrants may not enter an event that is also being used as a Club Championship event by their first claim club. Any second claimers racing for their first claim club should notify the race committee in order to be excluded from that particular round.

You must request to join the Championhip by submitting a link to your Run Britain Rankings profile and your birthdate before any events your participate in. Enter here

Scoring

There are 18 races in the calendar and you can participate in as many as you like.

The event winner will receive 100 points, second place 99 points, third 98 points and so on until we reach 10 points, thereafter all runners will receive 10 points as a minimum for taking part. Your best six scoring races count towards your competition total. However, if two runners finish on identical points then the runner who scored more overall points from all their races will be ranked higher. In the unlikely event that two runners still can't be separated, then the runner with the lowest handicap (or highest age for WAVA) at the season start will have priority.

The above are the only means to score points and NO bonus points are awarded for wearing the club vest, car sharing, getting the bus or wearing fancy dress!

Handicaps

Handicaps will be updated periodically from Run Britain, and the ranking in our system at the time of the event will be used to adjust race times, except in the case of Flexi Races described below.

If you complete a Championship race before obtaining an official handicap from Run Britain, then you will be assigned a handicap of zero, therefore your time won't be adjusted.

Quality Score

Your quality score is a number from 0-100 and is calculated by the amount of recent races you have on Run Britain. The score determines the accuracy of your handicap, with 100 the highest score and an indication of an accurate handicap. Runners who infrequently race will have a low score and therefore have an inaccurate handicap. Any runner with a score less than 100 will only be entitled to a portion of their handicap time reduction. i.e. a score of 50 will only entitle you to 50% of your time reduction. Watch the following video for a full explanation.

Parkrun

When we use Parkrun as a Championship Race, your time will be taken from the official Parkrun results. For first claim members, please make sure that you have Pumas set as your club in your profile, otherwise your time could be missed. Second claim members will still automatically be added to the results. Also, don’t forget your barcode as your time won’t count.

Flexi Races

Flexi Races do not take place on a specific date and participants will have a set timeframe to submit an entry. Therefore, Flexi Races will use the runner’s handicap from the first day of the specified timeframe. E.g. If the Flexi Race states all April to submit, then the runner’s handicap will be taken from the 1st April.

You can have multiple attempts and we'll use your fastest time.

Organised Races

The Championship is all about representing the club, and if you wish to participate in these races you must enter the event and race on the day (not virtual). The official race time from the organiser will be used as your race time.

It's not a rule but please wear your Pumas vest for organised races.

It’s possible some minor changes/alterations may be made to the calendar but these will be minimal and well publicised on Facebook / Email.

Don’t leave it too late, if a race sells out, that's err, tough!
